My Crafty Side Hustle

I have yet to mention my side hustle on this blog for a few reasons. 1) I have a different blog for my side hustle and 2) that blog is connected to my name and face. Since I’m still anonymous here, for now, I didn’t want anyone to connect the two.  However . . . I’m sharing it now:

I have a side hustle!

I knit washcloths, hand towels, and scrubbies to sell at my friend’s craft open house. She hand-makes soaps, and I provide the “accessories.”

I have sold a few other projects both at small craft fairs and online, but I find what sells best for me is knitting patterns.

I posted my first knitting pattern January 1st, 2013 and have been creating more patterns since.

The best part of selling knitting patterns is that I put the pattern up online once and then I don’t need to do anything else. I don’t have to pack, weigh and ship anything. People download it and it’s a sale. I love it.

The most challenging part about selling knitting patterns is the marketing, so that is the “hustle” part. I have tried selling a few ads and being more engaged in social media to publicize my patterns, but I haven’t had a whole lot of success, and I don’t love doing it.

Since I have a full-time job and my current passion is writing this blog, I’ve let go of the hustle this past year. I still get a sale here and there, which is a thrill, but I’m unsure about how it fits into my life right now.

I do still knit items for my friend’s sale, and that’s always rewarding because we see a ton of friends each year along with selling.

I’ll definitely share how much I make with my side hustle in the future.
