Spoiler alert: If you are watching RuPaul’s Drag Race season 13 and don’t want to know who won, skip this post!
I finished my work for the semester last Thursday, so Friday was my first day off of school! (Since then a student has popped up and asked to submit work so he can pass the class, so I’m only 98% done with the semester now, but close enough).
It was a gorgeous day, so I decided to walk to a breakfast meeting which was just about a mile away. I had a great time catching up with a teaching group I used to meet with years ago. We talked a little about our experiences teaching during Covid, a little bit about our families, and a little bit about who was announced as the new president of their school. The good news about who was hired seemed to give my friends some hope–a much needed entity these days.
I walked back home, then walked the dogs, and then ate lunch with my husband. Friday lunch is our weekly date.
I was going to lay around and do nothing for a while, but the back yard was calling me. I weeded and trimmed while listening to The Prosecutors podcast. I’m not sure if The Prosecutors will be one of my regulars from here on, but I’m giving it a chance.
While outside, my little shadow (a black and tan coonhound named Abigail) found a bed to relax on while we were outside. Unfortunately, it was my garden bed. Good thing I don’t have a ton of stuff planted, so really she was just lying on some grass I put on top of the garden to stop weeds from growing. I prefer to have her with me and happy, so it all worked out.
Next, I played My Singing Monsters on my phone and took a nap.
I had enough energy to make dinner and then go over to a friend’s to knit and watch the end of season 13 of RuPaul’s Drag Race. What a great show! I love the costumes, the performances and the interviews. Plus, who we wanted to win won. Yaay Symone!
That was enough excitement for my first day of summer break. If I had still been working, I would have done some things I did today–like go to the breakfast meeting, keep my lunch date, and maybe weed for a bit–but I wouldn’t have had enough time to do everything like walk to the meeting or go to my friend’s house for RuPaul. This is one reason I am interested in possibly retiring early. I want to feel free enough to do more of what I want to do in the ways I want to do it–slowly and with naps.
Peace Out (and In),
Julie
